Hazard: Earthquake

Earthquakes can strike suddenly at any time of the day or night, often causing extensive property damage and many injuries. Although there are no guarantees of safety during an earthquake, identifying potential hazards ahead of time and advance planning can save lives and significantly reduce injuries and property damage. The BCA Resource Kit is available to you for guidance as you conduct a thorough Benefit-Cost Analysis, including the need to address multiple hazards in a single BCA module run.

In 1977, Congress established the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) as a long-term, nationwide program to reduce the risks to life and property in the United States resulting from earthquakes.
